  •  Ensure your body is free of oils, lotions, and perfumes before coming to the sauna. Clean skin will ensure optimal absorption of infrared wavelengths and allows you to sweat to release toxins.
  • Smoking is not permitted under any circumstance.
  • We recommend a slow cool-down after your session by towel drying, this allows your body to continue to do the sauna's work. Shower at home after your body has had time to slowly return to normal temperature.
  • Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted to use the sauna.

  • Refrain from eating 1-2 hours prior to sauna time.
  • Bring loose, comfortable clothing to change into after your sauna.
  • EXIT IMMEDIATELY IF NAUSEOUS, UNCOMFORTABLE, DIZZY OR SLEEPY.-

Studies have shown that spending 30 minutes doing far infrared therapy session can burn up to 200-600 calories per session. As the body works to cool itself while using a far infrared therapy sauna, there is an increase in the heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate.

Benefits

WEIGHT LOSS & INCREASED METABOLISM

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, regular use of a sauna imparts a similar boost on the cardiovascular system as running. As you relax in the gentle infrared heat, your body is hard at work producing sweat, pumping blood, and burning calories.

As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to pump blood at a greater rate to boost circulation. This increase in your metabolism may burn calories.

TEMPORARY MUSCLE PAIN RELIEF

Using our infrared sauna as intended as part of a healthy lifestyle promotes the temporary increase in blood flow to muscles and may offer temporary relief of arthritic pain.

Muscles relax best when tissues are warm for greater flexibility and range of motion. Far Infrared heat may help relieve muscle tension by increasing the thermal energy in your muscles.

BETTER SLEEP

Maintaining a cool body temperature is important for falling asleep. It explains why you have trouble sleeping on especially hot summer nights and why it’s easier to sleep when your bedroom is cool and dark. You can hack your body’s thermoregulation process by warming your body in an infrared sauna then allowing it to cool down after.  This quick cool-down speeds up the process for your brain to fall asleep.  The end result is a cool body that’s primed for sleep.

DETOXIFICATION

“It has been known for decades that sweating is a wonderful way to get rid of stored chemicals, including heavy metals. In fact, sauna is one of the detoxification procedures used in the Environmental Units in Dallas (Dr. William Rea) and North Charleston (Dr. Allan Lieberman) where the sickest of folks go to heal.” Dr. Sherry Rogers, Total Wellness, May 2000.

EASE JOINT PAIN AND STIFFNESS

Infrared heat may temporarily ease joint pain and stiffness.  Increased thermal energy to the joints may promote a temporary increase in blood flow.  Increased thermal energy may reduce stiffness and increase range of motion.

STRESS AND FATIGUE REDUCTION

Just a few minutes in the gentle warmth of an infrared sauna will help you feel relaxed, rejuvenated and renewed.

Many sauna customers comment on how much they look forward to their sauna session, as it’s a great time to get away and release any built-up tension and stress.

IMPROVES SKIN

The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in our Clearlight Sauna will allow impurities in the pores to come out.  The temporary increase in local blood circulation may help reduce the risk of certain chronic skin conditions.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

If any of the below apply to you, consult a physician prior to sauna use:

MEDICATIONS

Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician since some medications may induce drowsiness, while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation. Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics such as amitryptaline may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.

CARDIOVASCULAR ISSUES, OBESITY OR DIABETES

Individuals suffering from obesity or with a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems or diabetes should consult a physician prior to use. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature.

ALCOHOL & DRUG ABUSE

Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, you may not realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress. The use of alcohol, drugs or medications prior to a sauna session may lead to unconsciousness.

CHRONIC CONDITIONS / DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH REDUCED ABILITY TO SWEAT OR PERSPIRE

Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating.

Consult a health care practitioner.

ELDERLY

The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. If elderly, operate at a maximum heat of 55°C/131°F & for no more than 30 minutes.

CHILDREN

We do not allow children in the sauna. We ask that guests are at least 18 to use this modality.

HEMOPHILIACS / INDIVIDUALS PRONE TO BLEEDING

The use of infrared saunas should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.

FEVER & INSENSITIVITY TO HEAT

Individuals with insensitivity to heat or who have a fever should not use the sauna until the fever subsides.

PREGNANCY

Pregnant people should consult a health care practitioner before using an infrared sauna. Relax Salt Rooms requires a written consent from your practitioner prior to booking.

MENSTRUATION

Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase menstrual flow. This should not preclude sauna use.

JOINT INJURY

Recent (acute) joint injury should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the swollen symptoms subside. Joints that are chronically hot and swollen may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind.

IMPLANTS

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using.

COMMUNICABLE SKIN DISEASES

Even though the warm-up time of the sauna - before the user enters - is said to desiccate bacteria and thereby sterilize the sauna, we would ask that sauna users who have any communicable skin diseases, refrain from using this sauna.

HEART CONDITIONS

Sauna use is not recommended for persons with the following conditions: unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction (30 days) and severe aortic stenosis.
